Calling the United States an “outlier” among nations that otherwise have achieved success in cutting the spread of the coronavirus, a former director of the Centers for Illness Control and Avoidance stated Monday that it was a mistake to resume public areas, like bars, early, and that the country is paying for that error with remarkable spikes in cases and hospitalizations
Dr. Tom Frieden, the president and CEO of Resolve To Save Lives( an initiative that works to avoid epidemics), also reacted on” CBS This Morning” to President Donald Trump’s remarks this weekend that 99 percent of coronavirus cases are “harmless,” stating that problems from the virus are not totally comprehended.
” I think that part of the obstacle here is that we have actually lost the nuance,” Dr. Frieden told co-host Gayle King. “Some people are saying this is a scam, it’s fake, it’s not major. Other individuals might be stating it’s the worst thing in the world, a zombie apocalypse. It’s neither. This is a dreadful pandemic. It has killed 130,000 Americans. It has sickened numerous, much more. And we don’t yet know what the long-term complications of some of the illness[are] But it holds true that 99%of individuals who get it will endure.
” We need a more nuanced approach. Now, the infection has the upper hand throughout much of America, many of America. We can restore the upper hand if we collaborate. If we collaborate, we can get our kids back to school in the fall, we can restart our economy, and we can avoid deaths. We’ll only do that by coming together to stop the infection. It’s not going to stop on its own; we need to stop it.”
He stated that to do so we should follow the “Three Ws:” “Wear a mask; clean your hands; see your range.”
