United States federal execution set to go ahead after 17 years

The very first federal execution in the United States for more than 17 years is set to proceed in Indiana on Monday following a ruling by an appeal court.

The execution of founded guilty killer Daniel Lewis Lee had been blocked on Friday by a federal judge.

This came after family members of the victims looked for a delay, saying they feared going to personally could expose them to coronavirus.

However the federal government appealed and the injunction was reversed.

The 7th US Circuit Court of Appeal stated no federal statute or guideline gave the victims the right to attend the execution.

The family members are going to appeal to the Supreme Court.
