Victoria records 75 new coronavirus cases

Victoria is experiencing a “worrying” upward trend in coronavirus infections, with 75 new cases identified over night.

The state’s Health Minister Jenny Mikakos said the current cases were “extremely concentrated” in 10 Melbourne residential areas identified as community transmission hotspots.

” Obviously we are worried by the increasing number and the upward pattern and are monitoring the circumstance extremely closely,” Ms Mikakos stated.

Ms Mikakos stated the 75 cases might be broken down into the following categories:

  • One case is a returned visitor in hotel quarantine
  • 14 cases are linked to break outs (favorable lead to those checked as close contacts of existing cases)
  • 37 cases were spotted through regular testing (individuals presenting to general testing sites established by health authorities)
  • 23 cases are still under examination (cases which came in late in the reporting day and are yet to be examined and designated to another classification)
