Washington County declares state of emergency due to COVID-19

ST. GEORGE– The Washington County Commission declared a state of emergency situation Friday relating to the effect the coronavirus pandemic is having on the county.

” What we did today is took care of declaring a countywide state of emergency in concerns to outr economic conditions and some of the resulting impact the county will be facing,” Washington County Commissioner Victor Iverson stated Friday.

A purpose of the declaration is to help stabilize regional businesses and enable the County Commission to make decisions for the county “on the fly” as conditions change, Iverson stated.

In general, Iverson stated there are three points the emergency declaration concentrates on related to supporting regional organisation and providing precise information to the public on services and services still open and readily available, specifically for the county’s senior population.

First, the county will be directing funds utilized for tourist advertising toward a campaign called “Remaining Greater” that highlights companies that are open and how individuals can support regional service. The second part of that strategy includes dealing with the communities, the private sector and potentially the state to supply emergency situation service loans to regional organisations.

” As we seek to assist these companies that are affected instantly, our hope is that they’ll be able to stabilize and we’ll get back to regular conditions,” Iverson said.

The 3rd part of the statement is to provide accurate details in a place the county’s senior population can go in order to find out which drug stores make shipments, which grocery stores have made accommodations for them or how they can connect to the community so they don’t feel isolated during the pandemic.

” All of those things I’ve simply explained I’m wanting to have the ability to browse the web at the very first part of next week,” Iverson said. “Those are the 3 actions we’re taking right now, along with other actions that may be required.”
