‘We’re on the cusp of something very, really bad’: Premier’s caution as limitations reimposed on Melbourne

Victoria will reimpose stage three restrictions for 6 weeks in metropolitan Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire in a quote to slow a rapid spread of coronavirus.

Key points:

  • Premier Daniel Andrews says the state is on the cusp of something “extremely, very bad”
  • There were 191 brand-new cases verified today, including 154 which are under examination
  • VCE and specialist school trainees will return to class next week, while all other students in the restricted locations will get another week of vacations

Premier Daniel Andrews revealed the stay-at-home orders would be reimposed from midnight tomorrow night.

The new restrictions are expected to impact about 5 million people.

There were 191 brand-new confirmed cases revealed today, with 37 linked to known break outs and the remaining 154 under investigation.

Mr Andrews stated the brand-new constraints were the outcome of the “unacceptably” high variety of new cases.

” It is just difficult, with case rates at these levels, to have adequate agreement tracing personnel to have enough physical resources … in order to suppress and include this virus without taking significant actions,” he stated.

Mr Andrews stated a sense of complacency had actually contributed to the spread of the virus.

He said stated individuals acting as if the pandemic was over was “not the response, it is part of the issue”.

He said the virus had actually dripped from postcodes currently under the stay-at-home orders to other parts of Melbourne.

” We know we are on the cusp of something very, very bad if we do not take these steps today,” he said.
