He has been living, breathing and practising yoga for the last 50 years, “getting his nutrition from nature”. On his 59 th birthday, indianexpress.com reached out to him, and requested some tips to remain healthy– both mentally and physically– in Covid-19 lockdown. What followed was an insightful conversation about the human body, the mind, the connection with the cosmos, and how yoga occurred to him 50 years ago!

You are a leading holistic health guru; what would you recommend for an individual’s general health and holistic development in the middle of the continuous pandemic?
Self-questioning and retrospection occurs by investing time with nature. Go out to your balcony, invest time under the early morning sun, look at the trees, look at the vast area of the sky, listen to the chirping of the birds, value the flowers. You start to see life in a point of view– that nature always supplies and sustains.
I have actually been telling people to get closer to their own nature, by getting near the ecological nature exterior. We are made up of the exact same aspects as the environment– we are 72 per cent water, 12 per cent earth, 6 percent air, 4 per cent fire, and 6 per cent ether. This ratio has to be maintained with pranayama, vegetarian food, dhyana (meditation), and concepts of detachment. More crucial than social distancing, is distancing from desires.
Recognising the everlasting nature of energy, of soul, not believing that you are limited, helps.
