Indian Oil to pain up a biogas plant at Tirumala rapidly

TIRUPATI: Indian Oil Company (IOC) Small is establishing a compressed biogas (CBG) plant at Tirumala, whose feedstock will be biodegradable tough (wet) raze generated on the hill town.

Belief board of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has ratified a resolution in this regard taken earlier by the TTD govt officer (EO). The board accredited the EO to finalise terms and prerequisites of MoU that is to be signed between the TTD and IOC.

As share of Swachh Tirumala, the temple physique had contemplated a municipal wet raze remedy plant on the hill town with Windrow technology, which would construct compost or manure and minimise the negative impact on environment. The compost is being produced by O&M since March 27, 2017.

Sooner than extending this company’s contract, the belief board directed TTD officials to fetch replace technologies for disposal of wet raze. Officers then came up with the premise of bio-methanation or production of biogas as one amongst the applicable decisions for disposal of wet raze, because it produces gas that can even be feeble for cooking, heating and production of electricity.

Against this backdrop, TTD approached IOC for a technical detect regarding production of CBG. “After an inspection on February 28, 2021 and additional discussions, IOC has approach forward to set aside a compressed biogas plant in Tirumala on a mark-sharing foundation (IOC 50 percent and TTD 50 percent).

Accordingly, TTD will endure 50 percent of the mission mark, present as a minimal one-acre land at Tirumala, present segregated 35–40 MT natural raze per day to the plant and exercise the CBG produced. IOC will endure the the rest 50 percent of the mission mark, invite tenders, operate the mission, lay a pipeline from CBG plant to storage level and, most significantly, present technical know-easy how to the temple physique.

As per estimates, total requirement of LPG at Tirumala is moderate 3.335 MT per day. The proposed photo voltaic steam cooking machine taken up by NREDCAP will decrease 1/third of LPG consumption by 1.1 MT per day. The proposed CBG plant will construct approximately 1.75–2 MT of bio-gas day-to-day. Thus, dependency on LPG will be reduced to a sizable extent, ensuing in fetch savings of around ₹2 crore per 365 days for the TTD.
