‘Kaali’ poster row: Canada museum factors apology after Indian Excessive Price’s complaint

The Aga Khan Museum apologised over the ‘Kaali’ poster row after the Indian Excessive Price urged the Canadian authorities and the match organizers to withdraw “all such titillating enviornment matter”.

After the Indian Excessive Price in Canada sought the elimination of ‘smoking Kaali’ poster by filmmaker Leena Manimekalai, the Aga Khan Museum on Tuesday issued an announcement asserting that they deeply remorse the offence caused to the contributors of the Hindu and other faith communities by the social media post.

“The museum deeply regrets that one of many 18 short movies from ‘Below the Tent’ and its accompanying social media post savor inadvertently caused offence to contributors of the Hindu and other faith communities,” the statement read.

The museum was web hosting the works of faculty students from various ethnic and cultural backgrounds under the challenge titled “Below the Tent” organised by the Toronto Metropolitan College.

“Toronto Metropolitan College’s challenge presentation was hosted at the Aga Khan Museum within the context of the Museum’s mission to foster intercultural figuring out and dialogue thru the arts. Appreciate for various non secular expressions and faith communities kinds an integral segment of that mission,” the statement mentioned.

The Indian Excessive Price in Canada on Monday had urged the Canadian authorities and the match organizers to withdraw “all such titillating enviornment matter”.

In an announcement, the Excessive Price mentioned that they’ve received complaints from leaders of the Hindu community in Canada about “disrespectful depiction of Hindu Gods on the poster of a movie showcased as segment of the ‘Below the Tent challenge at the Aga Khan Museum, Toronto.”

Kaali controversy

The controversy erupted after filmmaker Leena Manimekalai shared the poster of the movie on social media. The poster depicts a girl sporting the costume of Goddess Kaali. She is viewed smoking a cigarette within the photo. Along with her typical accoutrements of trishul (trident), and sickle, the actor taking half within the goddess is confirmed wielding the LGBTQ+ community’s satisfaction flag.
