Logan Hospital complaints mount as woman claims she was left to wait for hours while miscarrying

Patients in agony are waiting hours for care in a beleaguered Queensland hospital, including a woman who sat bleeding while miscarrying and a baby who needed life-saving surgery.

The experience of 28-year-old Cassandra Lean in the emergency department of Logan Hospital is one of many patient horror stories being told to 7NEWS.

Lean was in her first trimester of pregnancy when she went to the hospital with bleeding.

She asked hospital staff: “Can I just find out what’s happening with my baby? Because I know this isn’t right. I’m bleeding, I’m in so much pain.”

She claims she was told by staff that the ultrasound she need wasn’t available, and it was also suggested to her that it might be quicker for her to see a general practitioner.

“I was just numb. In shock,” she told 7NEWS.

“How can a hospital so new not have the tools needed?”

7NEWS.com.au has contacted the Metro South Hospital and Health Service for a response.

Logan Hospital is the same facility where five-year-old boy Hiyaan Kapil died in May after originally being sent home from the emergency department hours earlier.

Mia was rushed to the Queensland Children’s Hospital in Brisbane where she immediately underwent surgery.

“I could be sitting here today talking to you about the fact my daughter died because of their negligence,” Logan said.

“I’m so lucky that she didn’t.”

The cases have sparked calls for an inquiry into the hospital.
