With the festive season right around the corner, Maruti Suzuki has finally announced the pricing of its all-new flagship – the Grand Vitara. Available in both mild and strong hybrid options, the SUV starts from Rs 10.54 lakh and goes all the way up to Rs 19.65 lakh (all, ex-showroom) depending on the variant you buy. Starting with the design, the flagship SUV is based on Suzuki’s C platform and features a rather rugged design. Elements of Maruti Suzuki’s other offerings can also be seen here, with S-Cross-inspired headlamps and the piano black inserts inspired by the Ertiga.
From the side, there’s a passing resemblance to Toyota’s own hybrid offering, the Hyryder. However, what really distinguishes it from the Toyota offering are the different set of alloy wheels and blacked-out pillars, which gives the roof a floating appearance.
Feature-wise, the SUV comes with a big nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Then there’s automatic climate control, ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof and cruise control. Additionally, you also get ventilated front seats, a digital driver’s display, a heads-up display and more.
Safety here is taken care of by six airbags, electronic stability control, a 360-degree camera, hill-hold assist and ISOFIX mounts. If you opt for the AWD strong hybrid option, you’ll additionally get a tyre pressure monitoring system and hill descent control.
Powering the Vitara is the same 1.5-litre petrol engine, which will be seen on both the mild and strong-hybrid variants. While the former makes 103PS of power and 137Nm of torque, the latter makes 116PS of power and 141Nm of torque. Transmission options on the mild hybrid include a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. With the strong hybrid, you get an e-CVT gearbox. The company claims an impressive efficiency of around 28kmpl on the strong hybrid variant.
The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara faces competition from the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, VW Taigun, MG Astor, and the Toyota Hyryder.
