AP HC problems remain on demolition of homes for roadway widening at Ippatam

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday remained the demolition of homes till Nov. 15 and provided an interim order after villagers from Ippatam town of Tadepalli mandal in Guntur district petitioned the court. The villagers grumbled that their homes and substance walls developed some 30-40 years back were being destroyed in the guise of roadway widening and wished a court order to stop this. A single judge bench headed by Justice Ravinath Tilhari heard the petition and served notifications on the principal secretary, the community administration and the community commissioner of Mangalagiri, the Tadepalli community corporation and to the Ippatam gram panchayat secretary. The court asked to stop action till Nov. 21, based upon a notification served on the villagers previously. Petitioners’ counsel Chidambaram sent to the court that the petitioners developed their homes in their own lands a number of years earlier. “Without anybody requesting any developmental work, the authorities proposed to broaden the roadway.” He sent that when the petitioners contradicted the proposition for roadway widening, they were blamed for advancement of the roadway and served with notifications, he stated. If the roadway broadening works are to be used up, the authorities are expected to use up land acquisition and pay payment to the villagers, he stated, and argued that the problem of advancement was raised by the authorities with a mal-intention to prevent payment of the payment.
