Mumbai: Measles havoc, death of 8-month-old child, 233 cases, 12 patients died

Measles has started showing havoc in Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra. According to the data of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), in the year 2022, 233 cases of measles have been reported in Mumbai so far. At the same time, 12 people have died due to this. Recently an 8 month old baby lost his life due to measles. He was admitted to Pune on 18 November.

According to BMC, death of 8 people is confirmed due to measles. At the same time, 1 case is currently suspicious. Out of the 12 people who died, 3 died outside Mui. Let us tell you that recently the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had taken a big step in view of the increasing cases of measles.

The Center has decided to deploy three high-level multidisciplinary 3-member teams at Ranchi (Jharkhand), Ahmedabad (Gujarat) and Malappuram (Kerala). These teams will assist state health authorities in setting up public health measures. Actually, this disease is spreading rapidly in children.

According to the information, the central team going to Ranchi includes experts from National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), New Delhi and Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital (RMLH), New Delhi. Experts from PHO, Mumbai, Kalavathi Saran Children Hospital (KSCH), New Delhi and Regional Office of Health and Family Welfare (RoHFW), Ahmedabad will join the central team going to Ahmedabad and RoHFW, Thiruvananthapuram, Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical in Malappuram team Education and Research (JIPMER), Pondicherry and Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC), New Delhi.

What is measles?

Measles is a highly contagious disease caused by measles virus. Actually, when this virus engulfs someone, then diseases like fever, rashes on the body, ear infection, diarrhea and pneumonia surround it. According to reports, the infection can last for ten days. Many children have also died due to this serious disease.

4 crore innocent children in danger

In 2021, around 40 million children worldwide will have missed a dose of the measles vaccine. 2.5 crore children did not take their first dose while 1.47 crore children missed their second dose. This decline in vaccines leaves millions of children vulnerable to infection.

In 2021, there will be an estimated 9 million cases of measles worldwide and 128000 deaths. 22 countries faced large and severe outbreaks. Decreased vaccine coverage, reduced measles surveillance, and interruptions and delays in vaccination due to COVID-19 as well as continued large outbreaks in 2022 mean measles is a threat in every region of the world Is.
