Binder wins 2nd sprint of MotoGP season with triumph at Spanish GP

Red Bull KTM rider Brad Binder won his 2nd sprint race of the MotoGP season when he stunned his group mate Jack Miller with an adventurous overtake on the penultimate lap to take triumph at the Spanish Grand Prix on Saturday. The sprint was at first red-flagged in the opening lap when Marco Bezzecchi, Franco Morbidelli and Alex Marquez were associated with a triple crash at turn 2, with champion leader Bezzecchi flung off his bike and into the gravel. The sprint was rebooted with initial grid positions for 11 laps with all riders eligible for the reboot and Binder soared off the line to take the lead heading into turn one. “Today was a difficult one with the with the warning at the start, so I ensured I got a much better begin the 2nd time around,” Binder stated. “I went directly to the front, however simply needed to take it a bit simple to attempt and bring the tires up. They felt a bit questionable.” While Binder rose ahead, the fight for 2nd at first had Jorge Martin, Miller, Francesco Bagnaia and Aleix Espargaro battling it out. Marquez crashed as soon as again while pole caretaker Espargaro took a tumble on his Aprilia with 6 laps to go. It was the KTMs and Ducati’s Bagnaia who defended podium locations, with the Ducati ultimately splitting the 2 KTM riders after Binder almost lost his front tire while surpassing Miller on turn 6. “As I began to get comfy, I attempted to remain incredibly near to Jack. He had an excellent speed and … to be able to eliminate till completion, press it through and bring out the wind is unbelievable,” Binder included. “Massive thank you to my group. It’s great to have both people up on the podium. They’ve been working so exceptionally difficult and it’s settling, so I can’t inform them just how much I value it.” Dani Pedrosa, who got a wildcard entry for the Grand Prix – his very first given that a singular race in 2021 – was participating in his very first sprint and the 37-year-old completed a praiseworthy sixth on the KTM.
