Former Team India cricketer Gautam Gambhir is in the news a lot. Under Gambhir’s mentorship, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won the IPL 2024 title. Now Gambhir’s name is leading the race for Team India’s next head coach. According to the report, Gambhir’s deal with BCCI has been finalized and only the formal announcement is pending. With the end of T20 World Cup 2024, the tenure of current head coach Rahul Dravid will end.
Gambhir met the Home Minister
Amidst all this, Gautam Gambhir met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on 17 June (Monday). Gambhir shared the photo on Instagram and wrote, ‘Met Hon’ble Home Minister Amit Shah ji and congratulated him for his success in the recent elections. His leadership as Home Minister will further strengthen the security and stability of our country.’

42-year-old Gautam Gambhir retired from international cricket on 4 December 2018. Gambhir played his last Test for India against England in Rajkot in 2016. Gambhir scored 4154 runs in 58 Test matches at an average of 41.95, which includes nine centuries.
Gambhir scored 5238 runs in 147 ODIs at an average of 39.68. This includes a memorable innings of 97 runs in the 2011 World Cup final, due to which India won the World Cup for the second time. He played 11 century innings in ODIs. Gambhir also left his mark in T20 International matches. He scored 932 runs in 37 matches with the help of seven half-centuries, in which his average was 27.41.
Gambhir left politics before Lok Sabha elections
Gautam Gambhir has been a Lok Sabha MP from East Delhi seat on a BJP ticket. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Gambhir registered a stunning victory from the East Delhi seat. Then Gautam Gambhir defeated Arvinder Singh Lovely by about three lakh 91 thousand votes. Gambhir got around seven lakh votes in that election. Gambhir had announced to quit politics to focus on cricket. As such, he did not contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
