Manu Bhaker moved closer to an unprecedented third medal for India at the Paris Olympic Games by qualifying for the final of the 25m women’s pistol shooting event on Friday but Isha Singh crashed out of the competition.

Manu scored 294 in precision and 296 in rapid for a total of 590 points and entered the finals by finishing second in the qualification.

Manu scored 97, 98 and 99 marks in three series of 10 marks each in the precision round. In the rapid round, she scored 100, 98 and 98 marks in three series.

Hungary’s Major Veronica topped the qualification with 592 points, equaling the Olympic qualification record.

Isha finished 18th with a total of 581 points with 291 points in precision and 290 in rapid and could not make it to the final of eight shooters. She made a strong comeback with 100 points after scoring 95 and 96 points in the first two series of precision, but could only score 97, 96 and 97 points in the rapid round.

The final of this event will be played on Saturday, August 3. After the precision round of qualification, Manu and Isha were at third and 10th position respectively.

Veronica and France’s Camille Jedrzejewski, who finished top two in the precision round, also scored 294 points, similar to Manu, but both of them hit more targets on the ‘X’ (centre of the target) to secure the top two positions. Manu hit the ‘X’ seven times, while Veronica and Camille did so 15 and 13 times respectively.

After winning the bronze medal in the individual 10 meter air pistol, Manu Bhaker along with Sarabjot Singh also won the bronze medal in the mixed team category. She became the first Indian to win two medals in the same Olympics.

Manu has made this record
Manu Bhaker has already become the first Indian to win two medals in the same Olympics after independence. She created history on 30 July by defeating South Korea in the 10 meter air pistol mixed team category at the Paris Olympics along with Sarabjot Singh. British-born Indian player Norman Pritchard won silver medals in 200 meter sprint and 200 meter hurdles in the 1900 Olympics, but that achievement was done before independence.

The Indian pair defeated Korea’s Lee Wonho and O Ye Jin 16-10 to give the country its second medal in this Olympics. Earlier, Manu had won bronze in the women’s 10 meter air pistol event.

I will try to score a hattrick: Manu
After winning the second bronze medal, Manu Bhaker looked very happy with her partner Sarabjot Singh in the event. When she was asked if she can now score a hat-trick of medals, she said that she will give her all to win the medal and will try to score a hat-trick.

3 medals have come in shooting
If we look at it, this is the first time that an Indian shooter has won a medal in the 50 meter rifle three position event of the Olympics. This is India’s third medal in the current Olympic Games. Before this, India’s last two medals also came in shooting. This means that for the first time India has won three medals in shooting in an Olympic season.
