Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday said that if Adani Group does not follow the instructions of the state government, the contract for Dharavi redevelopment will be taken away from it. In ‘India Today Conclave’, Fadnavis refuted the allegations of opposition parties on the project and said that the ‘tender’ was given to Adani Group due to the highest bid.

Mumbai Congress chief and Lok Sabha member Varsha Gaikwad on Wednesday claimed that the Adani Group holds 80 per cent stake in the Dharavi Redevelopment Project Pvt Ltd (DRPPL), which is undertaking the ambitious reconstruction, while the state government holds the remaining 20 per cent. .

He said the previous Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA government failed to limit Transferable Development Rights (TDR). “It was our government that had fixed the limit on TDR pricing,” Fadnavis said.

Accused on Uddhav government

He said, ‘There was no capping in the TDR given by the Uddhav government. This meant that you would hold and then increase the price accordingly. Right now there is a cap on the price. At the current price, you cannot go above 90 percent. If we had accepted the condition imposed by the Uddhav government, then we, the developers, could have increased the price even up to 200 percent because he used to keep the price withheld. ,

‘Then we will take the contract back’

Fadnavis said, “Adani (group) will have to do what the government wants. If they do not do so, we will take back the contract from them.” Fadnavis was the housing minister in the state government when billionaire Gautam Adani’s group won the bid to redevelop Dharavi, one of the most dense urban areas in the world. Fadnavis said that the opposition parties are either not studying the issue properly or are more interested in politicizing it.

Gaikwad, who was the MLA from Dharavi before being elected to the Lok Sabha in the 2024 general elections, also alleged that the redevelopment project is the biggest real estate scam. Asked about Gaikwad’s claims, Fadnavis said, “The Dharavi redevelopment plan is under the control of the state government. A principal secretary-level officer will head the detailed project report (DRP). It will draft the development control rules.”
