Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the Presidents of Brazil, Chile and Argentina in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday and discussed ways to increase bilateral cooperation in various sectors like defence, energy, biofuels and agriculture. Modi, who arrived here on Sunday after completing a two-day visit to Nigeria, spoke to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on the sidelines of the G-20 summit and praised Brazil’s efforts during its presidency of the G-20. .
In a social media post after talks with Brazilian President Lula, PM Modi said, “We took stock of the entire range of bilateral relations between our countries and decided to improve cooperation in energy, biofuels, defence, agriculture and other sectors.” Reaffirmed our commitment.”
The Prime Minister’s Office said the two leaders had a “productive meeting” during which they reviewed the entire spectrum of bilateral relations and agreed to advance cooperation in defence, agriculture, biofuels, digital technology and other areas.

‘Inspired by G-20 held in India’

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “Prime Minister Modi thanked President Lula for successfully hosting the G-20 summit.”
“The Prime Minister assured India’s full support to Brazil’s ‘Global Coalition Against Hunger and Poverty’ initiative. Our discussions will cover renewable energy, biofuels, defence, agriculture, healthcare and digital technology,” he said in a social media post. “The focus was on exploring opportunities for greater collaboration.”
Jinping and Biden also arrived
On Monday, Prime Minister Modi was warmly welcomed by President Lula at the venue of the G-20 summit. Along with PM Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart Joe Biden are among the leaders attending the Rio de Janeiro summit on November 18-19.
On Tuesday, Modi also met Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font during the G-20 summit.
PM Modi said in a social media post, “Relations between India and Chile are strengthening in many areas. Our talks focused on how to deepen ties in pharmaceuticals, technology, space and other areas. Ayurveda in Chile Glad to see the popularity of this is also an area where relations can gain momentum.”
President Boric said they discussed the negotiations for a trade agreement (CEPA) between the two countries and new opportunities for public-private investment and trade promotion.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson said the two sides reviewed India-Chile relations and discussed ways to enhance cooperation in the areas of pharmaceuticals, healthcare, technology, IT, railways, mining, space, renewable energy and defence.

Apart from this, Narendra Modi met Argentine President Javier Mili and reviewed the bilateral strategic partnership. This was the first meeting between the two leaders.

From Brazil, PM Modi will go to Guyana on the invitation of President Mohammad Irfan Ali. This will be the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Guyana in more than 50 years.
