Netanyahu’s statement came a day after the Huthis struck Israel’s commercial hub on Saturday with what they claimed was a ballistic missile, injuring 16 people and forcing many to leave their homes following the pre-dawn attack.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday vowed to retaliate against Yemen’s Huthi rebels after they fired a missile at Tel Aviv, warning that Israel would target what he described as the last remaining arm of “Iran’s axis of evil”.

Israel failed to intercept a missile from Yemen early on Saturday that fell in the Tel Aviv-Jaffa area, injuring 16 people and forcing many to leave their homes following the pre-dawn attack.

“As we acted with force against the terrorist arms of Iran’s axis of evil, so we will act against the Huthis… with force, determination and sophistication,” Netanyahu said in a video statement.

A spokesperson for the Iran-aligned Houthis said Saturday they had hit a “military target” in the Jaffa area with a ballistic missile. The Houthis have repeatedly fired drones and missiles towards Israel in what they describe as acts of solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.

On Thursday, Israel launched strikes against ports and energy infrastructure in Houthi-held parts of Yemen and threatened more attacks against the Yemeni group.
