‘Bajaj Chetak’, which became synonymous with scooters in the Indian market in the eighties and nineties, has today returned in a completely new avatar from its original home i.e. the Origin Manufacturing Plant. In the year 1972, the first Chetak scooter was rolled out from Bajaj Auto’s Utsa plant located in Akurdi, Pune. Today, after almost 52 years, the company has launched the best incarnation of Chetak Electric till date from the same plant. The company has named this new Chetak as ‘Chetak 35 Series’. This scooter has been introduced at a starting price of Rs 1.20 lakh (ex-showroom, Bengaluru).
The company says that the new Chetak may look similar to the previous model but it has gone through a major change. The company claims that many major changes have been made technically in the new Chetak electric scooter which makes it the best model till date. This scooter has better range, storage space and comfort than before.

Bajaj Auto Technology Managing Director Abraham Joseph said during the launch, “If we talk about the design, it is largely the same as before. But the company has made the biggest changes in the structure and battery position of this scooter. In the previous model The battery was placed under the helmet box, but in the new model the company has placed it on the floor board, which not only gives the rider extra storage space but also provides a long floor board.
Abraham said, “This new scooter has been built on a completely new platform. It has been given a new battery, new control system and new motor panel. Not only this, the company has also moved the wheels of the scooter slightly towards the rear, Due to which there has been a change in the size and space of the scooter. Its seat has been lengthened by 80 mm compared to the previous model. Now this scooter comes with a 725 mm long seat.
Battery and Range:
The company has given a new battery pack of 3.5kWh capacity in the new Chetak. Which comes with a single charge range of 153 km. However, the company says that in the real world this battery is capable of giving a driving range of at least 125 km. The battery is covered with an aluminum box which is completely safe. This battery is IP67 rated which gives better performance in all weather conditions.
Onboard Charger:
The company has also provided the facility of 950 watt onboard charger in the new Chetak. The company claims that its battery gets charged up to 80% in just 3 hours. It not only charges the scooter fast but also allows you not to compromise on storage space. You can easily charge this scooter by connecting it to a normal household power socket.

The company has given TFT touchscreen display in the new Chetak electric scooter. Which works as both infotainment system and instrument cluster. It has the facility of integrated map, call accept and reject, music control, Bluetooth connectivity. It also has safety features like document storage, 35 liter boot space, geo fencing, theft alert, accident alert, speed alert etc.
Variants and Price:
The company has introduced the new Chetak 35 series in a total of two variants. The starting price of its base variant (3502) is Rs 1,20,00 while the price of its top variant (3501) is Rs 1,27,243 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru). Official booking of both variants has been started.
