More than 68,000 riders boarded the new O-Train Lines 2 and 4 during the first four days of operation last week, according to a memo to council from OC Transpo general manager Renée Amilcar.
The lines “continue to operate as planned” after four days in service, Amilcar stated.
Amilcar reported “very positive” ridership numbers, with nearly 21,000 customer trips during the first day of operation on Jan. 6.

“This is almost three times the number of customer trips made on the replacement bus service last fall,” Amilcar stated. “We continued to see positive ridership numbers over the course of the week, however, it is too early to draw any conclusions on overall ridership trends at this time.
“On Line 4, we are seeing an average of 400 customer trips to and from Airport Station each day this week.”
As part of the phased opening of the lines, there was no service on Saturday or Sunday. Service will resume at 6 a.m. on Monday.
“We are encouraged by these early results and customers’ interest in trying the new train service,” Amilcar stated. “There remains plenty of capacity for ridership growth, and we look forward to welcoming more customers to Lines 2 and 4 as we proceed through the phased opening.”
