Sarfaraz Khan’s troubled past back into spotlight amid dressing room conversations leak allegations

Sarfaraz Khan has recently found himself in the headlines for the wrong reasons, primarily due to allegations made by Gautam Gambhir regarding leaked dressing room conversations. As the Indian head coach, Gambhir has accused Sarfaraz of disclosing sensitive information during the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which has reignited scrutiny over the young cricketer’s checkered past.

Despite Sarfaraz Khan’s undeniable talent with the bat, his career has been overshadowed by a series of controversies. His first significant setback occurred in 2011 when a school team accused him of age fraud. A bone test conducted to verify his age did not align with the birth date registered with the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). Fortunately for Sarfaraz, a subsequent test cleared him of these allegations. However, the incident took a toll on his mental health, prompting him to seek help from a psychologist to cope with the stress and anxiety caused by the situation.

In 2012, when it seemed that things were beginning to stabilize for Sarfaraz, he faced yet another setback. After being included in the prestigious Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack, he was sent on a month-long stint with Hull Cricket Club in Yorkshire. Unfortunately, he was expelled from a BCCI batting camp at the Bandra Kurla Complex due to disciplinary reasons, which further complicated his career trajectory.

The situation worsened in 2015 when Sarfaraz, along with Suryakumar Yadav, was dropped from the Mumbai team after making inappropriate gestures towards MCA officials following a U-19 semi-final victory. As a consequence of their actions, their match fees were withheld for two years, further damaging Sarfaraz’s reputation.

 Recently, Sarfaraz Khan scored 150 runs against New Zealand in Bengaluru after scoring tons of runs in domestic cricket, which earned him a call-up to the Indian national team. However, with ongoing allegations and scrutiny surrounding him, his future in Test cricket remains uncertain. The combination of his past controversies and current accusations could significantly impact his career moving forward.
