Agreement on ‘Belt and Roads’ between Nepal and China, PM Oli announced

Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said, “Under the Belt and Road Framework cooperation, Nepal-China economic cooperation will be further strengthened.”

Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is on a visit to Beijing and during this he signed many agreements with China and Nepal. PM Oli said in a social media post, “Today we have signed the Framework for Belt and Road Cooperation. As my official visit to China comes to an end, I am pleased to have bilateral talks with Prime Minister Li Qiang, NPC Chairman Zhang Leji It is a privilege to discuss and reflect on an extremely productive meeting with President Xi Jinping.”

Nepal China economic cooperation will further strengthen under the Belt and Road Framework Cooperation.

PM Oli said that Nepal-China economic cooperation will be further strengthened under the Belt and Road Framework cooperation.

Nepal and China signed nine agreements on Tuesday.

1. Letter of Exchange on the construction of Tokha-Chhare Tunnel
2. Nepal-China Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on trade growth
3. Exchange of Certificate on Completion of Basantapur Durbar Reconstruction in Kathmandu
4. Protocol for Export of Thermally Processed Buffalo Meat
5. Memorandum of Understanding on Development Plan (2025-2029) between the Ministry of Finance and China International Development Cooperation Agency
6. Memorandum of Understanding on Economic and Technical Assistance
7. Letter of exchange on cash assistance of 300 million yuan
8. Memorandum of Understanding on Chinese Language Teachers
9. MoU between Nepal Television and China Media Group (CMG)

What did Nepal PM say before the Chinese tour?

Prime Minister Oli had said before the visit that he would not take any loan from China, because Nepal needs to escape the burden of loan. Kathmandu will look for grants so that BRI projects can be completed without loans.

Nepali Foreign Minister Arju Rana Devbah visited China last week and spoke to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. He had told China, “Nepal is no longer in a position to take loan for any project, because the country’s debt has already increased a lot.”
