R Ashwin makes shocking revelation, wanted to retire after…

Cricket latest

Ravichandran Ashwin, one of India’s premier off-spinners, recently made a surprising revelation about his retirement plans. Speaking at a book launch event in Chennai, the veteran cricketer shared that he originally intended to hang up his boots after playing his 100th Test match. The milestone game took place in Dharamsala against England in 2024, where Ashwin showcased his prowess by taking nine wickets.

The Special Invitation that didn’t materialize

To make his 100th Test even more special, Ashwin revealed that he had invited former India captain and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend MS Dhoni to present him with a commemorative memento. Unfortunately, Dhoni couldn’t make it to the occasion. Reflecting on the moment, Ashwin said, “I called MS Dhoni for my 100th Test in Dharamsala to hand over the memento. I wanted to make that my last Test. But he couldn’t make it. However, I didn’t think he would give me the gift of getting me back to CSK. It’s a much better one. So, thank you, MS, for doing it. I’m glad to be here.”

A Full Circle with CSK

After his retirement from international cricket during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in December 2024, Ashwin found a new beginning. He expressed his joy at returning to CSK, not as a celebrated cricketer but as someone who has come full circle in his career. “Most importantly, I have come back to CSK not as someone who has achieved so much but as someone who has gone through the full circle and wants to come back here and enjoy just like before,” he added.

Ashwin ended his test career after taking 537 wickets which included 37 five-wicket hauls.

Ready for IPL 2025 For Chennai Super Kings

The IPL 2025 season holds immense promise for Ashwin as he prepares to don the iconic yellow jersey once again. CSK secured his services for INR 9.75 crore in the mega auction, and the seasoned spinner is set to play a crucial role when the tournament kicks off on March 22.

Fans and cricket pundits alike are eager to see Ashwin back with CSK, symbolizing not just a return to his roots but also the continuation of a remarkable journey.
