In a world where celebrity offspring are often expected to follow in their famous parents’ footsteps, Athiya Shetty has chosen a different path, one led not by the bright lights of Bollywood but by personal conviction and a newfound purpose.
In a candid interview with Zoom, her father, veteran actor Suniel Shetty, revealed that his daughter has consciously stepped away from the film industry, closing the chapter on her short-lived acting career.
‘Baba, I Don’t Want to Do Films’
Speaking fondly of his daughter’s honesty and clarity, Suniel recalled, “She said, ‘Baba, I don’t want to,’ and she just left. And that’s what I salute her for—saying, ‘I’m not interested. I don’t want to do films.’” He added that despite receiving multiple offers post her 2019 film Motichoor Chaknachoor, Athiya stood firm in her decision to move on.
A New Role: Motherhood Over Movies
Now 32, Athiya has found joy and fulfilment in a different kind of role—motherhood. Suniel Shetty proudly remarked, “She’s working in the best film now, and that is life—the role of a mother. And she’s loving it.”
Athiya and her husband, Indian cricketer KL Rahul, welcomed their daughter Evaarah in March 2025. The name, meaning “Gift of God”, was revealed in a heartfelt Instagram post accompanied by a touching image of the couple cradling their newborn.
A Brief but Memorable Film Journey
Athiya made her Bollywood debut in 2015 with the romantic action drama Hero, produced by Salman Khan. She followed it up with Mubarakan (2017), a comedy co-starring Anil Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor, and later appeared in Motichoor Chaknachoor alongside Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Though she featured in only three films, Athiya left a mark with her graceful screen presence.
Writing Her Own Script
Athiya Shetty’s decision to step away from Bollywood isn’t one of defeat, but of clarity and contentment. In a time where fame often overrides fulfilment, her choice is a reminder that personal happiness is the ultimate success story. Whether on-screen or off, Athiya continues to inspire by embracing the roles that matter most to her.
