US President Donald Trump has once again given a wind to the speculation of the trade war. He has announced 50 percent tariff on all imports from the European Union from June 1 and 25 percent tariff on all smartphones made in the US, including Apple’s iPhone. His statement has stirred up global markets.

In the message on social media, Donald Trump targeted EU and said, business talks have come to a standstill. Our discussions with them are not reaching any conclusion. He accused the European Union of behavior and insisted that US products have been banned in Europe.

Trump also warned Apple that he would have to produce the iPhone at the domestic level. Otherwise, he will have to face a new tariff. Trump said that he had told Apple CEO Tim Cook long ago that production should be done in America itself.

He said that he is going to build a plant in India. I said that it is okay to go to India, but you will not sell it here without tariff. If they are going to sell the iPhone to America, then I want it to be made in America itself.

Currently apple is transferring most of its iPhone assembly to India to avoid Chinese tariffs, but there is no public plan to transfer manufacturing to America. Analysts say that making iPhone in the US will increase prices by thousands of dollars.

Later Trump clarified that the smartphone tariff will be broadly applied on Apple, Samsung and any foreign phone which can be installed by the end of June.

Last year, the European Union exported $ 500 billion goods to the US, in which Germany, Ireland and Italy were at the forefront. 50 percent tariffs will affect products such as cars, pharmaceuticals and aircraft, which is likely to increase costs for American consumers.

European Union’s trade chief Maros Sefkovic appealed for peace and called for mutual honor, while Dutch Prime Minister Dick Scoff said Tariff’s threats had been a part of the US dialogue strategy before.

Turns in the global market

After Trump’s statement, there has been uproar in the market. American and European shares have seen a decline. Treasury returns declined and gold prices have increased amid the concern of investors. Also, Apple’s shares have fallen by 3 percent.
