Queen Maxima of the Netherlands stole the show at the recent Nato Summit in The Hague. Dressed in a bold lime-green silk outfit, she stood out in a sea of dark suits as she and her husband, King Willem-Alexander, welcomed leaders from 32 countries.
But it wasn’t just her fashion that got people talking. A short clip from the Royal Palace quickly went viral online, showing Queen Maxima standing beside US President Donald Trump and—according to many on social media—mimicking his speaking style.

Did the Dutch queen mock Donald Trump?
President Donald Trump was in the Netherlands on Tuesday evening for the Nato Summit, just days after ordering strikes on Iranian nuclear sites and only hours after announcing a ceasefire in the Israel-Iran conflict.
Though he was originally set to stay in a luxury hotel in the coastal town of Noordwijk, plans changed. Trump was instead invited to spend the night at the royal residence in The Hague, where King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima live with their three daughters.
“President Trump has accepted King Willem-Alexander’s invitation to spend the night at Huis ten Bosch in The Hague,” a White House official confirmed. “This is a historic event – marking the first time an American President will stay at the King’s residence.”
The following morning, after sharing breakfast at the palace, the Dutch royals posed with the US President for an official photoshoot.
“That’s the picture we want,” Trump said with a thumbs-up and wide grin, standing between the King and Queen.
As camera shutters clicked, the Dutch King asked if he had enjoyed his stay. “It was great,” Trump replied, before turning to the press and adding, “Thank you all very much.”
It was in that brief moment that Queen Maxima appeared to purse her lips and mouth “thank you” in a way that seemed to mimic Trump’s distinct speaking style.

Social media lit up with reactions.
“Wait a minute, was Queen Maxima of the Netherlands mimicking Donald Trump?!” one user wrote on X.
“Maxima does not like Trump’s a one bit!”** another said. “Our queen making fun of Trump and she imitates him, while she stands beside him. Maxima the queen you are!” added a third.
Others were just amused by the relatability of the moment.
“She did let her intrusive thoughts in, and I can appreciate her for it,” read one comment.
While Trump hasn’t commented on the clip himself, the rest of his visit to the Netherlands appears to have gone smoothly. “Beautiful people, great people, big, beautiful heart,” he said after his stay at the royal palace.

Who is the Dutch Queen Maxima?
Before she became one of Europe’s most admired royals, Queen Maxima of the Netherlands had built a life of her own, one that began far from the Dutch palace.
Born Maxima Zorreguieta on May 17, 1971, she grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the daughter of Jorge Horacio Zorreguieta and Maria del Carmen Cerruti. From an early age, she showed a sharp intellect and a strong work ethic.
She earned a degree in economics from the Universidad Católica Argentina in 1995, and during her university years, she also worked at Boston Securities SA in Buenos Aires while tutoring both children and adults in English and mathematics.
Her career quickly took off. She moved to New York, where she held several high-ranking roles in international finance. Between 1996 and 1998, Maxima served as Vice-President of Latin American Institutional Sales at HSBC James Capel Inc.
She later joined Dresdner Kleinwort Benson as Vice-President of the Emerging Markets Division, and then moved to Deutsche Bank, continuing her work as a Vice-President of Institutional Sales. From 2000 to 2001, she worked at the EU Representative Office of Deutsche Bank in Brussels.

Maxima’s life changed forever in 1999, when she met then-Crown Prince Willem-Alexander at a party in Spain. The two hit it off instantly. However, their budding relationship soon came under scrutiny when it emerged that Maxima’s father had served as a minister in Argentina’s military dictatorship during the country’s notorious Dirty War.
