This is just one reason and she rejected Google’s job worth Rs. 3 crores, now she said…

Google Employee Left Job: A Google employee left the job despite having a package of Rs 3.40 crore, because she was not able to spend quality time with her close partner. According to CNBC report, Florence Poirel, senior program manager at Google’s Zurich office, said that she took this decision because she wants to live a balanced and meaningful life.

Florence was tired of corporate life

Poirel, 37, said she was not tired or unhappy with her corporate life. She told CNBC Make It, “By the time I left the job, I was not tired at all. The team was cheerful. The work was also quite good but I had no clarity.”

The woman further said, I realized that the time spent with the people I love matters most. My partner also works at Google and is 17 years older than me. “I couldn’t wait for retirement to spend time with him,” she said.

After spending more than a decade at Google, Poirel built a successful career in the company’s European offices. Started from Dublin and later transferred to Zurich. By 2024, his annual salary was around $3.9 lakh (approximately ₹3.40 crore). But when he learned about the FIRE movement (i.e. financial independence and early retirement), he decided to rethink his life priorities.

save money for retirement

By January 2024, he had saved $1.5 million (₹12.6 crore), enough to fund what he calls his “mini-retirement”. A few months later, in April, he and his partner quit their jobs and took at least 18 months off to travel.

‘Life is very short and beautiful’
Poirel now spends her time swimming in Lake Zurich, traveling and giving career advice to women. He admitted that it was not easy to leave such a good salary, but now he does not miss his old job and routine at all.

She said, ‘I thought I would get bored very quickly but now it has been one and a half years and I don’t feel bored.’ Reflecting on her decision, Poirel said, ‘Life is too short and beautiful not to spend most of it working, when you could be spending it with the people and experiences that make you truly happy.’
