Delhi’s air becomes poisonous again, it will be difficult to breathe in NCR in the coming days!

Delhi’s air quality deteriorated further on Tuesday evening and the AQI reached 372, which is close to the ‘savior’ category. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), 16 out of 39 monitoring stations had AQI above 400, which can have serious effects on health.

Which areas are most affected?
The ‘Savior’ category includes Burari, Anand Vihar, Mundka, Bawana, Vivek Vihar, Rohini, Sonia Vihar, Ashok Vihar, Punjabi Bagh and other areas. As per CPCB standards, 0–50 is considered ‘good’, 51–100 ‘satisfactory’, 101–200 ‘moderate’, 201–300 ‘poor’, 301–400 ‘very poor’ and 401–500 ‘savior’.

How will the weather be in the coming days?
According to the Air Quality Early Warning System, AQI in Delhi is likely to remain in the ‘very poor’ category for the next few days. There may be mist and fog at night. Surface winds will blow at light speed from south-west direction and will increase up to 5 km per hour by afternoon. The wind speed in the evening and night is likely to be around 10 km per hour from the north.

Why is pollution increasing?
On Tuesday, 18.4 percent of the total pollution in Delhi was due to the transport sector. This was followed by pollution caused by outdoor industries at 9.2 percent, and neighboring cities Noida at 8.2 percent, Ghaziabad at 4.6 percent, Baghpat at 6.2 percent, Panipat at 3.3 percent and Gurugram at 2.9 percent. The contribution of transport on Wednesday is estimated to be 15.6 percent.

On Tuesday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 25.8 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 9.6 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department has predicted the possibility of fog on Wednesday, the maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be 24 and 8 degrees Celsius respectively.
