The plan to provide major relief on traffic and transport challans in Delhi is currently stuck. A consensus could not be reached on this proposal in the recent cabinet meeting as a large number of challans are pending in the courts, raising questions on the legal validity of the scheme.
According to the government, it is committed to implementing this scheme and soon it will be sent in revised form to the Lieutenant Governor. LG’s approval is considered mandatory because he has the final authority in matters involving legal ambiguity.
If approved, vehicle owners will get 50–70 percent discount on pending challans. This relaxation will be applicable on two-wheeler, three-wheeler and four-wheeler challans, while there will be no relief in serious cases like drunk driving, unlicensed or unauthorized driving.

Officials say that if this relief scheme is also not successful, then the government can take strict steps. Like stopping the services of ‘Vahan’ portal or canceling the registration of repeat violators. At present, all hopes are pinned on the green signal from LG.
