As tensions between the United States and Iran have escalated in early 2026, US forces stationed at al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar—America’s largest military installation in the Middle East—have taken a big step to adjust their defensive posture. Satellite images shows that Patriot surface-to-air missiles were loaded onto truck-mounted launchers, marking a shift from more fixed sites and giving the weapons greater mobility, reported Reuters.

The Patriot missiles were placed on M983 Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Trucks (HEMTT) rather than remaining tied to static launcher stations, allowing them to be moved quickly to different positions if needed.

The satellite comparisons also showed a broader
regional increase in US military assets.

At al-Udeid, there were more aircraft and support equipment in early February than in previous weeks, suggesting that US Central Command is bolstering its footprint not just for defence but possibly as a deterrent. Similar patterns, including additional aircraft and support vehicles, were spotted at bases in Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and even on Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.
