A shocking case that came to light in a village in Yavatmal district has raised fears of major cyber fraud. In a village with a population of just 1,500, 27,397 births were recorded within three months. This shocking case has come to light from Shendursani Gram Panchayat of Arni tehsil of Yavatmal district.
Fear of cyber fraud
Such a large number of births were revealed in the civil registration system between September and November. What makes the matter more serious is the fact that the Civil Registration System ID of Shendursani Gram Panchayat was found to be linked to Mumbai. This indicated that organized and technically capable cyber criminals could be behind this.

After the matter came to light, the District Health Officer lodged a formal complaint at Yavatmal City Police Station on Tuesday. Under government instructions, a special campaign to check late birth and death registrations was being conducted.
27,397 births and 7 deaths found in records
Meanwhile, the extension officer of Arni’s health department found records of 27,397 births and seven deaths between September and November 2025 in the software. This number was extremely abnormal compared to the actual population of the village. As soon as the information was received, the District Health Officer informed the Chief Executive Officer of the District Council, Mander Patki.
After this, an inquiry committee was formed under the chairmanship of the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Panchayat Department. The committee went to Shendursani village and investigated on the spot. Investigation revealed that the 27,397 births and seven deaths recorded were outside the jurisdiction of the Gram Panchayat and were considered highly suspicious.

Kirit Somaiya tweeted
BJP leader Kirit Somaiya has raised this issue in his tweet. He said, ‘In September 2025, 27,397 birth registrations were done in this village with a population of only 1,500, most of whom are above 18 years of age and are not residents of Maharashtra.’ According to Kirit Somaiya, the police has registered an FIR in this matter. He has called it ‘the country’s biggest birth certificate scam’.
