People took to the streets in Kashmir Valley after the news of the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in US-Israeli attacks. Hundreds of protesters are out on the streets carrying big pictures and posters of Khamenei. They are continuously raising slogans like “Long live Khamenei” and “Down with America-Israel”, which shows their strong resentment and protest.
There are deep religious and political reasons behind these demonstrations in Kashmir. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is seen as an Islamic revolutionary and pro-Palestine leader in Kashmir. Iran has long been supportive of the Kashmir issue, with his popularity particularly high among the Shia community and pro-Iranian groups. He is considered a symbol of Islamic unity and Shia Muslim community.
Many people here consider the “Operation Epic Fury” run by US-Israel as an attack on Islam and especially the Shia Muslim community. More than 40 top leaders of Iran have been killed in this operation, due to which the situation in the Middle East has become even more tense.
