A kayaker was taken to hospital in serious condition following a water rescue in the Ottawa River on Sunday, April 5.

Ottawa Fire Services took a 911 call at 3:07 p.m., with initial reports stating that the kayaker was in the water at the Remic Rapids.

The water rescue team, upon arrival at the scene, confirmed that one person was in the water about 100 feet from the shore. They were rescued minutes later.

The Ottawa Paramedic Service also attended the scene, treating an adult male on Bate Island before transferring him to hospital in serious but stable condition, a paramedic spokesperson said. The man had been showing symptoms of hypothermia after being rescued.
