DK Shivakumar is sure to become CM, legislative party leader elected on Siddaramaiah’s proposal

There has been a big change in the Congress government in Karnataka. The party has elected its new Chief Minister. D.K. Shivkumar, who was till now the Deputy CM, will now be the new Chief Minister of the state. His oath will be taken on June 3.

There is a Congress government in Karnataka. Earlier Siddaramaiah was the Chief Minister. But there was a discussion going on within the party for a long time that there would be a change in power. Finally that time has come.

Siddaramaiah resigned from the post of Chief Minister on Thursday. The next day i.e. on Friday, Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot accepted his resignation and dissolved the entire Council of Ministers. That means the entire government ended and preparations began to form a new government.

What happened on Saturday?

On Saturday, a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) was held at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru. This meeting was supervised by two big leaders of AICC. How. Venugopal and Randeep Singh Surjewala reached Bengaluru and handled the entire process.

Governor invited DK Shivkumar to form government

The process of government formation in Karnataka is now almost complete. Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has formally invited DK Shivakumar to take over as the Chief Minister of Karnataka. According to the invitation issued by the Governor, DK Shivakumar will take oath as Chief Minister on June 3.

Three things happened in the meeting

First task – All the MLAs together passed a resolution. In this it was decided that the decision on the new leader would be taken by the central leadership of the Congress. This proposal was put forward by Siddaramaiah, Dr. Parameshwara supported it and all the MLAs passed it by raising their hands.

Second task – After this Siddaramaiah himself D.K. Shivakumar’s name was presented as the new CLP leader. Dr. Parmeshwar again supported. And all the MLAs unanimously voted for D.K. Shivkumar was chosen as the new leader.

Third task – D.K. Shivakumar thanked Siddaramaiah by proposing a proposal.

Once the meeting stopped midway

There came a time during the meeting when Siddaramaiah, Venugopal and Surjewala went to separate rooms and talked among themselves. After this the meeting started again and Shivkumar’s name was approved.

What did Siddaramaiah say?

Siddaramaiah clearly said in the meeting that after my resignation, the party had to choose a new leader, that is why this meeting was called. Till now D.K. Shivkumar was the Deputy CM, now he has been elected the floor leader of the party.

In what manner did the party thank Siddaramaiah?

In a resolution passed on Saturday, the Congress Legislature Party praised Siddaramaiah. The party said that he did excellent work as the Chief Minister of Karnataka from 2013 to 2018 and again from 2023 to 2026. Apart from this, he was also the leader of opposition twice. The party said that his passion for social justice, his way of working and his loyalty towards the party are an example for every Congress worker. The party also said that the Karnataka government will continue to benefit from his guidance in future also.

In Bengaluru, Congress leader Priyank Kharge has reacted to the party’s decision regarding the post of Chief Minister. He said that senior Congress leader K.C. Venugopal and Randeep Singh Surjewala have already announced to the media that D.K. Shivkumar has been elected leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP).
