A late‑night police chase has ended in dramatic arrests after officers tracked an allegedly stolen car for almost two hours.

Three teenagers have been arrested after allegedly stealing a Mitsubishi from Adelaide’s northern suburbs and leading police on a chaotic two‑hour chase that ended with two of them climbing onto a Windsor Gardens rooftop.

Police allege the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross was stolen from Munno Para West about 1.35am on Monday.

About an hour later, patrols spotted the vehicle speeding along Portrush Rd at Toorak Gardens.

The pursuit was terminated, but the Mitsubishi allegedly made a U‑turn and headed back towards the city.

Road spikes were deployed near the old toll gate, shredding the tyres, but the vehicle continued north on Portrush Rd, police said.

Witnesses say the tyre‑less car eventually ground to a halt on North East Road at Windsor Gardens, outside a local business.

“It’s really scary to think that’s happening right outside our front door,” Alyssa O’Donnell told 7NEWS.

The three boys allegedly bolted from the vehicle, sprinting through a drive‑thru in a desperate attempt to escape.

“I’m not sure what goes through people’s minds nowadays,” O’Donnell said.

“I woke up to people running across the roof at three o’clock in the morning,” a witness told 7NEWS.

“I bolted out the back door, ran around the corner, looked to my right — and there’s two guys just sitting there.”

As officers closed in, the pair allegedly gave up.

“They just sat there finishing their smoke,” the witness said.

“They knew they were gone for sure.”

Police say a machete was found inside the stolen vehicle.

A 17‑year‑old Valley View boy, a 16‑year‑old Munno Para West boy and a 15‑year‑old Parafield Gardens boy have been charged with illegal use of a motor vehicle, breach of bail and possession of a prohibited weapon.

All three will appear in court at a later date.
