NEW DELHI: The outbreak of coronavirus worsened on Wednesday with 27 new cases reported by 11 different states and Union territories bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 166. Across the world, the virus has infected over 200,000 and killed more than 8,000 people.

Here is a look at the latest updates on the spread of novel coronavirus (Covid-19) in India and around the world —

78 people have been placed under quarantine in Srinagar after their arrival from Leh.

As per the latest information released by the Union health ministry, the total number of confirmed cases in India touched 166, including 25 foreigners. Fifteen out of the 166 patients have either been cured, discharged or have migrated out of India. There have been three deaths from the virus.

ICSE Board class 10,12 exams postponed till March 31

The ICSE board on Thursday postponed class 10 and 12 examinations due to the novel coronavirus threat, officials said.

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations chief executive Gerry Arathoon said the exams have been postponed till March 31. On Wednesday, CBSE had also postponed exams till March 31.

“There is no need to fear. People shouldn’t step out of their homes. We are all together in this fight. We have to reduce the burden on health agencies,” said Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray during a press briefing. The chief minister added that he has requested the Union government to set up more testing labs.

“Just like soldiers fight the war, here the doctors, nurses and other government agencies are soldiers,” he added.
