United States President Donald Trump has actually stated he has actually instructed his administration to stop funding to the World Health Organization (WHO).

He said the WHO had “stopped working in its basic task” in its response to the coronavirus outbreak.

He accused the UN body of mishandling and covering up the spread of the infection after it emerged in China, and said it needs to be held liable.

The United States is the WHO’s greatest single funder, providing $400 m (₤316 m) in 2015 – simply under 15%of its overall budget.

China’s contribution in 2018-19 was practically $76 m in evaluated contributions and about $10 m in voluntary financing, according to the WHO website.

The organisation introduced an appeal in March for $675 m to help battle the pandemic and is reported to be preparing a fresh appeal for a minimum of $1bn.
