China’s economy shrank for the very first time in decades in the first quarter of the year, as the infection forced factories and companies to close.

The world’s second most significant economy contracted 6.8?cording to official data released on Friday.

The financial toll the coronavirus is having on the Chinese economy will be a substantial concern to other countries.

China is a financial powerhouse as a major customer and manufacturer of products and services.

Last year, China saw healthy economic growth of 6.4%in the very first quarter, a duration when it was locked in a trade war with the US.

Its economy had ground to a halt throughout the first three months of the year as it introduced large-scale shutdowns and quarantines to prevent the infection spread in late January.
