India and China are collaborating to guarantee the quality of medical supplies, particularly for personal protective devices(PPE) sets and screening sets, given China continues to among the world’s biggest providers of the items India requires at present, said Indian Ambassador to China, Vikram Misri.
In a special interview to The Hindu, Mr. Misri indicated that personal business in India should be discouraged from direct procurements without seeking advice from the government on the bonafides of business making the medical materials, and disclosed that India is using European firms to validate quality control of these business also.
India has imported more than 500 tonnes of medical equipment from China in the past 2 weeks, consisting of PPE, antibody quick screening kits, thermometers and other essentials.
The External Affairs Ministry has said more than 400 tonnes of medical equipment from China have shown up in the previous two weeks. How are the 2 nations interacting throughout the pandemic?
India remains in the process of commercially acquiring a big amount of medical materials from China. Our top priority is for quality products to be available at reasonable and stable costs and enable their transportation in an efficient and timely manner to India. We have been collaborating with the Chinese side on determining bona fide suppliers, assisting in customizeds procedures and expediting flight clearances, and so on. Smooth cooperation in these areas would be an outstanding development in our bilateral relations.
