India recorded the largest single-day spike in positive cases on Monday with 3,900 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. With 195 deaths, the country also witnessed the highest number of coronavirus deaths in a day. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in its May 5 update said that 46,433 have been tested positive and the death toll stands at 1,568. It added that 12,727 have recovered so far.

First Shramik Special train leaves Vijayawada for Maharashtra

The first Shramik Special train with migrant labourers from Maharashtra left Andhra Pradesh today.

1,212 workers, from Chandrapur and other districts in Maharashtra for red-chilli plucking to Krishna district headed for their native places. The train left Rayanapadu Railway Station at 3 a.m.

India likely to operate 64 flights to repatriate 14,800 of its nationals from 12 countries

The Centre is likely to operate 64 flights from May 7 to 13 to bring home around 14,800 Indian nationals stranded abroad because of the coronavirus lockdown, senior government officials said.

These special flights would be operated by Air India and its subsidiary Air India Express to repatriate Indians from 12 countries —the UAE, the UK, the US, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman, said the officials.

Fine for those not wearing masks in public brought down to Rs. 200 from Rs. 1,000 in Bengaluru

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) brought down the fine amount being levied on those not wearing a face mask in public to Rs. 200 from the earlier Rs. 1,000.

Civic chief B.H. Anil Kumar issued a revised order in this regard on Tuesday. In the order, Mr. Kumar stated that the fine amount of Rs. 200 for the first and subsequent offence had been stipulated as per the government notification of the Karnataka Epidemic Diseases Regulations, 2020.

T.N. SSLC exam schedule to be released in June

Tamil Nadu’s Minister for School Education, Youth Welfare and Sports Development K.A. Sengottaiyan said that the SSLC examination schedule for students in the State would be released in the third week of June after obtaining permission from the Chief Minister.

The Minister also said steps are being taken to begin evaluation of the class 12 board exam papers.

Chhattisgarh launches portal for home delivery of liquor in green zones

The Chhattisgarh government has launched a web portal for home delivery of liquor in green zones of the State to avoid crowding at wine shops during the lockdown, an official said.

The portal has been named after the state-run CSMCL (Chhattisgarh State Marketing Corporation Limited), which controls the sale of liquor in the State, a public relations department official here said.

Kerala to bring back 2,150 NoRKs from Middle East in phase-I evacuation plan

In phase-I of the evacuation plan, 10 flights ferrying about 2,150 NoRKs from the Middle East; will land at Cochin International Airport. The schedule is as follows:

May 7- Abu Dhabi, Doha;
May 8- Bahrain;
May 9- Kuwait, Muscat;
May 10- Kuala Lumpur;
May 11-Dammam, Dubai;
May 12 – Kuala Lumpur;
May 13 – Jeddah.
