It modifies the existing eight-hour shift after representations from industries.

The Odisha government has temporarily changed the day-to-day eight-hour shift to 12 hours by tweaking the Factories Act, 1948, in the middle of opposition from labour organisations.

The State federal government customized the existing eight-hour shift thinking about representations of specific markets and market associations.

” In workout of power gave by Area 5 and 65 of the Factories Act, 1948, the Federal government of Odisha thus directs that all the factories signed up under the stated Act will be excused from arrangements associating with weekly, day-to-day hours and period of rest of adult workers under Area 51, 54, 55 and 56 for a duration of three months and a 12- hour shift is allowed the duration,” states a federal government notice.
