The Supreme Court Friday remained the Madras High Court order which had asked the Tamil Nadu government to close State-run alcohol vends on the ground that there was infraction of standards suggested to include the COVID-19 pandemic.

Following the stay on the high court order by the pinnacle court the State-owned alcohol stores might reopen in the State.

A Bench comprising Justices L Nageswara Rao, S K Kaul and B R Gavai stayed the May 8 order of the High Court after remembering of the appeal of government company Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) which offers alcohols in the State.

Attorney Yogesh Kanna, appearing for the State federal government, said the leading court released notices to those who had actually filed the pleas in the high court looking for
