New York Times report: Chattanooga in leading 5 nationally for new coronavirus cases, as deaths and cases continue to rise

With two new deaths and 186 new cases considering that Friday, Hamilton County’s continued increase in favorable coronavirus tests has positioned it among the fastest growing caseloads in the country.

According to a report by The New York City Times early Tuesday, Chattanooga’s rate of brand-new cases each day is the 5th highest in the nation, doubling about every nine days.

The analysis, released before 23 new cases and one brand-new death were reported late Tuesday afternoon by the Hamilton County Health Department, shows a four-week-long uptick in cases in your area.

The Times also identified Dalton, Georgia, in Whitfield County, as the location with the nation’s eighth greatest growth in cases. The area included 157 cases recently, and cases are doubling every 11 days.

Over Memorial Day weekend, Hamilton County reported 163 brand-new cases in simply 3 days’ time, consisting of an increase of more than 70 on Sunday, the single largest day-over-day jump in the county since the international pandemic began.
