China’s Foreign Ministry on Wednesday said there was “no requirement for 3rd party intervention” on the border row with India and both countries were “capable” of resolving the issue. This comes a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. President Donald Trump went over the border circumstance in a phone call.
New Delhi on Tuesday said the border circumstance was gone over by the 2 leaders, during which Mr. Trump also mentioned broadening the Group of Seven to include India and welcomed Mr. Modi for the next summit to be kept in the U.S. The other members are Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the U.K.
Last week, Mr. Trump provided to mediate in between India and China amidst the continuous border stress and New Delhi appeared to turn down the deal, with officials saying that India and China remained “engaged” through diplomatic and military channels in Delhi and Beijing and at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in order to solve the scenario along the limits in Ladakh and Sikkim. They kept in mind that the matter was being discussed bilaterally. “We are completely engaged with the Chinese side to quietly resolve the issue,” said Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Anurag Srivastava.
