New research study: Masks most effective method to reduce COVID-19 spread

( CNN)– The new coronavirus spreads primarily via airborne transmission and wearing a mask is the most reliable method to stop person-to individual spread, according to a new research study

A team of scientists in Texas and California compared COVID-19 infection rate patterns in Italy and New York both prior to and after face masks were made compulsory. Both locations started to see infection rates flatten just after mandatory face mask steps were put in place, according to the research study released Thursday in the Procedures of the National Academy of Sciences

The scientists calculated that wearing face masks avoided more than 78,000 infections in Italy between April 6 and May 9, and more than 66,000 infections in New york city City between April 17 and May 9.

” Wearing of face masks in public represents the most effective methods to prevent interhuman transmission, and this affordable practice, in conjunction with synchronised social distancing, quarantine, and contact tracing, represents the most likely combating opportunity to stop the COVID-19 pandemic, previous to the advancement of a vaccine” they composed.

The researchers evaluated the efficiency of various techniques for stopping the spread of infection and to determine how the virus is primarily spread out. Infections can spread out by direct contact when an individual coughs or sneezes on another individual; indirect contact, when a person coughs or sneezes on a things that is then touched by another person; or in the air by means of big beads that fall quickly to the ground and tiny droplets, called aerosols, that can travel a number of feet and hang in the air for a while.

To determine how the main transmission approach of the infection, the researchers examined tren
