Prime Minister Boris Johnson said people need to stay 2m apart where possible but a “one metre plus” guideline would be presented.
Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, Wales’ First Minister Mark Drakeford and Northern Ireland’s Arlene Foster have said the 2m guideline will remain in place in their countries for the time being.
In a declaration in the Commons previously, Mr Johnson said individuals would be motivated to utilize “mitigation” – such as face coverings and not sitting in person – when less than 2m from each other but “where it is possible to keep 2m apart, individuals need to”.

Prof Whitty alerted “we will get an uptick” if people did not take such measures seriously.
And Mr Johnson prompted individuals to be alert, stating the infection “wishes to take advantage of our negligence”.
He stated there would be regional break outs in the future – and that he would not be reluctant to reverse the modifications at regional or national level if the infection were to start to lack control.
The locations listed as having the ability to reopen include:
- Clubs, bars and restaurants however only with a table service inside, and owners will be asked to keep contact details of consumers to help with contact tracing
- Hotels, holiday apartments, campgrounds and caravan parks however shared facilities should be cleaned effectively
- Theatres and music halls but they will not be allowed to hold live performances
- In other changes weddings will be allowed to have 30 guests, and locations of praise will be permitted to hold services however singing will be prohibited
- Beauty parlor and barbers will be able to reopen but should have protective procedures, such as visors, in place
- Libraries, community centres and bingo halls
- Cinemas, museums and galleries
- Funfairs, theme parks, adventure parks, amusement games, skating rinks and model towns
- Indoor attractions where animals are shown, such as at zoos, fish tanks, farms, safari parks and wildlife centres
What can not open from 4 July?
The following locations will remain closed by law
- Nightclubs and gambling establishments
- Bowling alleys and indoor skating rinks
- Indoor backyard consisting of soft-play
- Health Spas
- Nail bars and beauty parlor
- Massage, tattoo and piercing parlours
- Indoor physical fitness and dance studios, and indoor fitness centers and sports venues/facilities – although Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden tweeted that ministers wish to be able to reopen fitness centers and leisure centers in mid-July
- Swimming pools and water parks
- Exhibit or conference centres – besides for those who work for that venue.
