The body of civil liberties icon, Democratic Congressman John Lewis, will lie in state this week in the United States Capitol rotunda.

Mr Lewis is the very first African-American legislator to get one of the country’s highest honours.

The homage is scheduled for American statesmen and military leaders, including twelve US presidents.

Lewis, the “Conscience of Congress”, passed away of pancreatic cancer aged 80 on 17 July.
