A couple months ago, in the middle of pandemic entertainment desperation, I received a book in the mail. I didn’t know the backstory behind the writer, however knew I was happy to have a new kids’ book in your home, specifically one with a “list” (aka a tabulation– substantial points for my toddler today). Instantly I was drawn into The Sky Cracked Open, a lighthearted tome of sweet poems that immediately brought me back to my days of reading Shel Silverstein on the Laura Ashley sheets of my childhood bed room, while my sibling blasted Def Leppard in the background.

Anjelika Temple here, Co-founder and Chief Creative Officer of Brit Co, lover of poetry, mother of 2 insane kiddos, and absolutely humbled to be able to share a snippet of Lauren Molasky Fierst’s innovative journey. Keep reading to become aware of Lauren’s journey and what keeps her inspired.
Anjelika Temple: Let’s start with your roots.
Style and fashion will constantly be something I enjoy with all my heart and soul. I actually liked sharing images of the method I ‘d design things, however I likewise loved writing the posts simply as much. I’ve had an affinity for composing because I was in grade school and I have actually been composing little poems for family members for a long time.
AT: Your journey is one for the books. Mother of 2 kids, newly married and battling Cystic Fibrosis while awaiting for a double lung transplant. Talk with me about how all of this has actually come together to help you discover your voice and creative mission.
LMF: My kids and my family are my entire world, they are what motivate me the most, to fight my battle versus CF as difficult as I battle it. I enjoy that I have actually had the opportunity to compose for the CF Structure and speak as their ambassador to raise cash for research and a treatment.

AT: Did you always know you wanted to be a writer? Inform me about the spark minute when you understood you might do this genuine.

LMF: I have believed in the previous about the possibility of composing a book one day however never knew what I wanted to write about. Once I began writing the poems for this book it felt like I couldn’t compose them fast enough. I liked the procedure of developing it and each poem feels truly special to me due to the fact that it’s either about someone I personally understand, something that occurred or something my kids stated. In the beginning, it was truly only going to be for my child and daughter, however it became something moreover and they were excited for other individuals to read my poems too.
AT: What do you like about making things?
LMF: I like the process of an idea that becomes something. Especially ones that take all kinds of detours and turns due to the fact that the final product is much more special to me. When I had my clothing line, I loved when I would finally see the completed product of a vision I had. With poetry, it’s cathartic to get my thoughts out on paper that form from a basic word or idea. Being able to develop a poetic story that makes my heart full is the best feeling, and if other people can associate with it or find comfort in it in any way, then it’s even much better.
AT: I enjoy your book The Sky Cracked Open. It sort of reminds me of my old Shel Silverstein books but with a lighthearted, warm tone to it. Tell me more about what influenced you to write this collection of poetry.
LMF: Thank you a lot! Shel Silverstein is a substantial inspiration and I have actually read all of his books to my kids because they were babies. They ‘d choose poems at random and we read them so many times the book is frayed and falling apart. My child informed me one night that I must make a “genuine book” for all my poems too. The idea sort of simply stuck, and I started taking
