The first time MLA Rekha Gupta has become the new Chief Minister of Delhi. Rekha Gupta (50) was unanimously elected the leader of the House in the Delhi Assembly in the BJP Legislature Party meeting. This decision was taken after 11 days of suspense that lasted for 11 days after the results of the Delhi election were declared. Born in Haryana and raised in Delhi, Rekha was active in politics since childhood. He got education from Delhi University and played an important role in student politics. After joining the BJP, she served in various positions of the government and the organization.
Despite facing defeat in the 2015 and 2020 elections, he won a big win in Shalimar Bagh seat in 2025. Now the BJP has chosen him as the Chief Minister of Delhi, due to which he has become a leader to become the Chief Minister from the BJP after 27 years in the capital, his life and career is a source of inspiration for young leaders. Rekha Gupta was born in 1974 in Nandgarh village of Jind district of Haryana. His family came to Delhi in 1976, where he was fully educated. Rekha became interested in politics since childhood and joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh student organization ABVP. (Rekha Gupta in inset)
She became the president of the students’ union at Delhi University. After this, he worked in various positions in BJP. Rekha joined the Delhi unit of BJP Yuva Morcha in 2003-04 and held the post of Secretary here. After this, from 2004 to 2006, he played responsibility as the National Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha.
In 2007, Rekha became a councilor from North Pitampura. After this, in 2007-09, she was the chairman of Women Welfare and Child Development Committee in MCD for 2 years. She was the General Secretary of the Delhi BJP Mahila Morcha in 2009. In 2010, the BJP gave Rekha Gupta the responsibility of a member of the National Executive.
Rekha Gupta’s political journey also failed in the 2015 and 2020 assembly elections, BJP fielded her from Shalimar Bagh Assembly seat in 2015 and 2020 assembly elections, where in 2015 she was defeated by Vandana Kumari of Aam Aadmi Party by about 11 thousand votes, while in 2020, the margin of her defeat was close to 3400 votes. However, in the 2025 assembly elections, he defeated AAP’s Vandana Kumari by a big margin.
Rekha Gupta is also of Haryana origin like Kejriwal and she became CM for the first time like Bhajan Lal Sharma.
Rekha Gupta will take oath of Chief Minister at a grand ceremony at Ramlila Maidan today. Around 50,000 people are expected to attend this occasion, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his cabinet colleague and Chief Minister of NDA -ruled states.
