37 people, including three American citizens, who attempted a coup in the Democratic Republic of Congo have been sentenced to death. He had attempted a coup in the month of May, but had failed. These people had captured the President House of Congo’s capital Kinshasa with heavy weapons.

However, in a military operation, the leader of the armed forces who came to carry out the coup was killed, who was a Congolese leader of American origin. Christian Malanga’s son Marcel Malanga was also made an accused. Along with this, American Benjamin Zalman, who was the business partner of his friend Tyler Thomson and Christian Malanga, was also tried and found guilty.

Father had threatened to kill!

All three have been sentenced to death after being found guilty on criminal conspiracy, terrorism and other charges. Malanga told the court that his father had threatened to kill him if he did not join the plan. He also said that this was the first time he had come to Congo at the invitation of his father, whom he had not met for years.

Death sentence to 37 nominees

About 50 such people are involved, including American, British, Canadian, Belgian and Congolese citizens. He was part of the failed coup in which the President’s office was captured. For example, a total of 37 nominees have been sentenced to death. In Washington, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said embassy staff participated in the proceedings and would continue to monitor the case.

Wife appealed

“We understand that the legal process in Congo allows for appeals against court decisions,” the US official said. Belgian-Congolian citizen Jean-Jacques Wondo is also among the 37 nominees. Wondo’s family sent a message to Congolese President Felix Tshisekidi. However, his wife appealed that he was innocent.
